As I sit down to write this, my emotions are a whirlwind. A recent call with one of our our project partners in Lebanon has left my heart heavy, my mind restless, and my determination unwavering. In a country that has already been through so much hardship, schools are closed again, homes have been destroyed, and over a million individuals are displaced, the weight of the situation is palpable, and the impact on children immeasurable.
We ended our 4th year in March with pride and excitement. We set out with enthusiasm, driven by an ambitious plan to extend our reach, to touch more schools, empower more teachers, and change the trajectory of countless children's lives. We were energised by our project partners and the prospect of creating a new ones in new communities.
Yet, the tides have turned, and this year has proven to be a formidable challenge. The harsh reality of the financial climate has cast a shadow over the charitable sector, causing ripples that are felt by all. As priorities shift and resources dwindle, the task of securing funding to sustain our work has become an uphill battle. The burden of seeking support weighs heavy on my shoulders, a burden shared by many in similar roles across the globe.
Amidst these turbulent times, the plight of our friends and partners in Lebanon hits particularly close to home. Despite facing insurmountable odds, they persevere, demonstrating resilience in its truest form. The images of devastation flashing across our screens, the voices of anguish echoing in our ears, serve as a poignant reminder of the harsh realities our counterparts endure.
My visit to Beirut, the vibrant city and its resilient inhabitants, left an indelible mark on heart, which is breaking right now. It was the first of our projects I was able to visit after lockdown. Witnessing firsthand the tenacity and unwavering spirit of the people, I was inspired. The current state of affairs in Lebanon only intensifies the admiration I hold for them, as they weather yet another storm with unwavering resolve.
The road ahead is daunting, the challenges insurmountable, but in times of uncertainty, our resolve is tested, and our purpose reignited. The call to action is clear: we need to persevere, to stand together, and stand in prayer. Our journey is far from over, we are only just getting started! In the face of adversity, we find strength. In the midst of despair, we discover hope. Unwavering in our commitment, we continue to stand with all our project partners around the world. Believing that we can change the story, one child at a time.
